Matt Lewis Cast in Series 4 of ‘Ripper Street’

Digital Spy reports this morning that Matthew Lewis has been cast in series 4 of Ripper Street. It is unknown who his character is, apart from being a policeman, but we will keep you updated as news develops. “From our new studio set in Ireland, it has been a delight to watch this cast reunite and grow,” series creator Richard Warlow said. “As these new characters’ lives take shape on the page, it is a daily inspiration to know that they will be brought to life by the most magnificent troupe of actors Ripper Street has yet assembled.”

A description of the first series is as follows:

Haunted by the failure to catch London’s most evil killer, Jack the Ripper, Inspector Edmund Reid now heads up the notorious H Division – the toughest police district in the East End. Charged with keeping order in the blood-stained streets of Whitechapel, Reid and his men find themselves fighting to uphold justice and the rule of law; but always in the background lurks the fear of the Ripper – is he back for another reign of terror? Rich episodic storylines meld with the intrigue of a criminal underworld festering on the hard streets of Victorian London, following the battle of the men whose job it is to bring the law to the lawless.

This news explains why Matthew is in Ireland and posted a photo of himself dressed as a 19th century policeman.

Bluestone 42 Not Returning for 4th Series

Bluestone 42 is officially not returning for a fourth series. James Cary and Richard Hurst made the announcement on Sitcom Geek. While we here at Matthew-Lewis.com are sad that the show will not be returning for more hijinks, we can be glad to know that it helped entertain those men and women fighting to protect us.

UK fans can purchase the first two series on DVD over at Amazon [Bluestone 42 Series 1; Bluestone 42 Series 2]. Fans in the US who haven’t seen it yet can watch the first two seasons of the show on Hulu Plus. The first season can be watched without a Plus account.

The full statement can be read below:

Bluestone 42: Over and Out
Statement from James Cary and Richard Hurst, Creators/Writers of Bluestone 42

We’re sad to announce that Bluestone 42 will not be returning for a fourth series. Overall, it was felt that the show had run its course, with the return of the troops from Afghanistan, and the move of BBC3 to an online platform.

Bluestone 42 ran for 21 episodes over three series, was critically well-received, and was repeated on BBC1 and BBC2.

Its most recent series achieved higher audience figures than the first two, with a total of over two million viewers tuning in on average each week.

The Army – in particular XI EOD, the Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal regiment – took the show and the characters to their hearts and assisted us greatly in creating a show that valued accuracy as much as comedy. Cpl Daniel Whittingham, interviewed in The Guardian, said “People who aren’t in the military might think comedy isn’t the best way to show what war is like. I disagree, and most soldiers I know think Bluestone 42 is spot-on, too.”

We were also proud that many of the cast raised money several times for the Felix Fund, the bomb disposal charity.

We would like to thank BBC3 for backing the show in the first place, and giving us the creative freedom to pursue our vision for the first comedy set during a war that was still being fought.

We are also very grateful for a superb cast and crew both in UK and South Africa who worked with professionalism, resilience and good humour throughout the process, especially on some very demanding filming days in very hot weather with some very tight budgets. And around some very loud bangs. Everyone can be proud of what we achieved together.

Carry on.

Bluestone 42 Series 2 Available in USA on Hulu Plus

Fans in the US will recall that last year Bluestone 42 Series 1 was added to Hulu. Matthew’s character, Towerblock, does not feature in the first series, but Hulu has just added series 2 to their offerings!  You can watch both series 1 and 2 on Hulu Plus, which is $7.99 a month. Towerblock joins Bluestone 42 in Season 1, Episode 9 – the Christmas Special.

Video: Captain Extraordinary® Animatic Trailer Featuring Matt Lewis

Rushfirth Creative has released the Captain Extraordinary® Animatic Trailer which features Matthew Lewis as the titular character.  As we have posted previously, the show has not been picked up for production yet so it is unknown whether Matt will continue in the role as Captain Extraordinary.

EXTRAORDINARY. WHY BE ANYTHING ELSE?

Buckle-up your jetpack and join our canine hero as he embarks on crazy comic adventures, protecting the strange and wonderful inhabitants of the Extraordinariverse from the mysterious and fearsome ‘Forces of Extreme Naughtiness.’

Introducing the animated laugh-out-loud comedy show featuring the mad-cap adventures of Captain Extraordinary® in the amazing Extraordinariverse.
Hold on tight…
…it’s going to be…
…EXTRAORDINARY!

Captain Extraordinary is a fun-filled 26 episode series of 22 minute fast-paced, laugh-out-loud animated comedy shows aimed at the 8 – 12 year old market. The show has a wacky tone that constantly delivers on laughs, without spilling over into the more anarchic cartoon bracket.

But what makes this different? What sets it apart from other shows… and why do we believe so strongly in what we have created?
Back in the day, comic book heroes were originally created for children. For the most part these have now been hijacked by the adult population, with the mainstream genre becoming ever darker and more violent, with complex mature themes at the core of their storylines. The void left behind is very apparent when one has a young child who thrives on fantasy hero stories, but seeks the fun, adventure and amusement aspect as opposed to ‘grounded’ gritty violence. And let’s not forget why ‘comic’ books got their name in the first place, all those years ago – humour is a vital element that binds the whole experience together. It needs to be FUN!!

Captain Extraordinary and the Extraordinariverse is all about putting a new generation of ‘comic book’ heroes (and villains) back into the hands, lives and imaginations of our children.

But more than that…

It is about creating a show with fantastic characters, humour and adventure, that will totally appeal to your 8-12 year old market. A show with layered humour, spoof elements and aside gags that will also appeal to parents. A show where real violence, dangerous weaponry and death have no part to play, making it totally suitable for the younger 5-7 year old market who would appreciate it simply for its overtly funny nature.

Parents can feel secure in the fact that their child is investing their time, energy and imagination in a series where real violence, dangerous weaponry and death have no part to play, and the emphasis is on escapism, fun, laughter… and more laughter!

Captain Extraordinary is good, clean, entertainment for all the family. The show does have a certain subtle ‘British feel’, but is not overtly UK-centric. It has the potential to be a great internationally loved brand with British roots – commanding the same confidence that franchises such as Wallace and Gromit, Harry Potter, Doctor Who and the Bond series do.

It has great potential across all media – TV, books – both printed and online, apps, feature films and the huge toy market. We believe we have the product to do it all.
We know it is extraordinary.
But…
…why be anything else?
