Matthew Lewis found fame as Neville Longbottom int he Harry Potter films. But forget the podgy boy with the buck teeth who slew Voldemort’s snake. He’s now ditched Neville’s fat suit, and has settled in as Corporal Gordon House, the latest member of Bluestone 42’s bomb disposal squad.
Nickenamed “Towerblock’, Captain Nick Medhurst’s mouthy Number Two joined the tight-knit team in last year’s Christmas special.
‘Towerblock thinks he knows it all,’ says Matthew. ‘He’s a working-class Northerner, and he’s not too pleased about being under the command of a posh public schoolboy.’
When Towerblock shows off his new pistol, Medhurst is jealous, and decides that he can pass his weapons handling test and get one for himself without any training. Which, of course, he can’t.
Elsewhere, cute Padre Mary is persuaded to hand out the units Jockstrap of Joy to Mac, for his romantic exploits while on leave. But a bout of itching suggests he’s picked up more than an award…
‘You’re laughing along with these guys all the way, never at them,’ says Mathew. ‘It’s a comedy, but there’s real danger in every episode, and we don’t skirt over that.’
The star admits he hadn’t even seen the first series of Bluestone 42 until recently.
‘It looked brilliant, but I didn’t get an audition, so I went into a big actor’s sulk and refused to watch it! I was like, “Why haven’t I been put up for this? I’d love to do something like that!” Fast forward a year, and here I am!’
