ML: I dunno why, but for some reason I’ve always been interested in planes and helicopters and the REF and I guess I musta said it in an interview somewhere and someone picked up on it and asked if I’d like to come be a guest and I said ‘absolutley I’d love to and so he’re I am.
Interviewer: You’ve never been here before?
ML: No I have not, but I dont know why, this is excellent.
Interviewer:Whats your favorite part of the show so far, I know you’ve only been here for a few hours.
ML:Well I assume, I think its gonna be the *something*, but I havent seen the *something today and I’ve heard they’re very very good so I’m looking forward to that. The best part was the *somethings* seeing them go over was pretty impressive, very loud though
Interviewer: You are a big movie star now, if you hadn’t gone that route what was the way the red arrows faced. Would you have been a pilot?
ML: I’d love to. I’ve always said if acting doesn’t come through I’d definatley seriously consider the REF. But I couldn’t be a red arrow I don’t think, what they do thats somethin else isnt it really.
Interviewer: Don’t think you’ve got the stomach for it?
ML: No, all the skills either. Those guys are brilliant
Interviewer: We all know you as Neville Longbottom, how do you think Neville would take to *something* Royal air.
ML: I think he’d think it very loud and he’d probably cower behind somebody very much larger than himself. Interviewer: So tell us a bit about your character for people who have possibly not seen you on the movies
ML: Um, he’s, I guess bullied a lot, lets put it that way. He’s always trying to be everybody’s friend and he’s Harry’s roommate and he’s always trying to look after them but he’s useless really…
Interviewer: …a bit bumbling isnt he
ML: …he is..messing up spells all the time and he’s clumsy, he’s forgetful, he’s rubbish at his job as a wizard really and actually he just tries to be helpful. Malfoy picks on him all the time…
Interviewer: …and he’s one of the baddies in the book and the films…
ML: …Malfoy is not really a nice guy at all. Harry’s arch nemesis Voldemort.
Interviewer: I hate to ask you this, but I’m going to have to. Is there any of Matthew Lewis in Neville?
ML: Uh, you have no idea how forgetful and clumsy I am. Simple things, I can remember math equations things like that. But when it comes to day to day stuff I’m rubbish, really really rubbish.
Interviewer: And what about the book [half-blood prince] have you had a chance to read any of it yet?
ML: I’ve read two chapters worth, yea. I read it in the car on the way here this morning. My dad went out to Tescos at about 6 this morning and got it for me, which was nice so yea.
Interviewer: Are you a fan of the books?
ML: I am, I was a fan of the first four before I went to my audition, so thats why I really really wanted to get the part. So yea I’ve been following it quite closely. The fifth one I found it pretty tough, I still read through it because I’m such a fan. It got really good towards the end so I look really forward to reading the sixth one.
Interviewer: Do you think thats what got you the job, because I was going to ask you how did you actually get into acting and Hollywood and the big movies, the Harry Potter movies.
ML: Well I’ve been acting since I was five, it was basically my brother. He was an actor and he got into it and because he was under 16 I had to go with him because my mom had to chaparone him. So I was really used to it and wanted to do it and at 5 I went for my first audition and got the part and it went on from there to when I was asked if I want to audition for Harry Potter.
Interviewer: For the first movie?
ML: Yea it was an open audition in Leeds and it was any part at all, I just wanted to be in it. and I went down and went in there for about two minutes and came out afterwards and for about four hours we heard nothing for a couple months so I thought ‘ah well, maybe next time’ and I got a call saying would I like to go down and meet the director for the part of Neville and I was ‘absoulutely’.
Interviewer: You worked with the big greats, Richard Harris, sadly he is no longer with us. And of course Alan Rickman as well, what was it like working with those guys?
ML: Amazing, it’s I can’t really describe just how overwhelming it is to meet those sort of people. Never ever when I was 5 years old did I think that some day I would be working with the Sherif of Nottingham from Prince of Theives at all. No way, I mean what an actor Alan Rickman is, and all of them are. Theres all of really amazing actors. I just can’t describe how amazing it is to say that you’ve worked with them.
Interviewer: And how do they treat you, being a relative unknown
ML: Well its, I always thought they would be full of themselves, just like ‘oh well they’re kids we dont want to work with them’ but they’re not at all. They’re really nice, always makin us laugh, jokin about stuff and they help you as well. You can watch them and see the way they do things and it helps, its good.
Interviewer: So what are you doing now then? You just finished filming the new movie …
ML: Yea Goblet of Fire, we just finished that a couple months ago. Just has my GCSEs as well ..
Interviewer: How did you?
ML: Not too bad, I don’t think. We’ll see in August, but I don’t think I did too bad so now its my 10 weeks of nothing.
Interviewer: What are you going to be doing in the future? What’s the next plan?
ML: Well they’re not sure whether they are doing the fifth one yet, that’s still in negotiations. But there’s three more books, so whether they do them at all is up to them. But if they did and they wanted me to do it then thats totally the way I’d go. But like I said, you never know, acting is like that, you never know and obviously I’m really looking forward to the REF career if acting doesn’t turn out..
Interviewer: You’re young, you actually could still become a pilot.
ML: Absolutely yea, I mean I’d love to, we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.
