This past weekend SnitchSeeker had the chance to interview director David Yates, and in that interview he briefly talked about Neville Longbottom, who, as we all know, is played by the wonderful Matthew Lewis.
SnitchSeeker: Neville’s speech – was that in the original script? Because it’s not in the books, so how did it add to that scene against Voldemort in the courtyard?
Yates: It’s Neville’s Henry V moment. Neville’s opportunity to talk about the fact that they had something that they were fighting for other than just … you know, Voldemort is a character who just inspires terror in people. That’s why everyone likes it when they don’t think he can beat Harry. They don’t stay out of loyalty, they stay out of fear. And Neville expresses the fact that they’re all there because they care for each other and they support each other out of love. That’s what his speech is about, basically. And, again, we developed that to express that point. And I like a good speech (laughs).

Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) revealed this past weekend that Matthew Lewis will participating in her “Flat White” video series on her website, Pindippy. She has previously had Evanna Lynch (Luna) and Scarlet Byrne (Pansy) join in on the fun! If Matt does indeed do a video I will be sure to post it on the site!
SnitchSeeker: So, Pindippy - break it down for people who won’t understand, as there’s a lot going on the site.
Jessie: Basically, I’m a comedy writer, and it’s basically like a female prepubescent Funny or Die. But is also for my illustrations. Now it’s for my designs, and I’ve got a couple to show you. But yeah, it’s a creative site, and it’s colourful and fun, and it’s hopefully going to be picked up for a TV series – which is wicked – aimed at young audiences, because I think it’s inclusive of that young. And the Harry Potter thing’s been brilliant because it has a great number of people going on it. It’s nice that they can see Lavender making fun of Lavender, so there are a couple of sketches written like that. It’s so great to include everybody. I can tell you that Katie Leung, and Alfie Enoch are being in it, and Rupert! They’re going to be cousins – Katie’s going to be Cousin Penelope; Alfie’s going to be Cousin Pygmalion; and Rupert’s going to be distant Cousin Gwyllem. And I’m just so excited – and Matt [Lewis] as well wants to do it – so I’m just thrilled.
SnitchSeeker: You’re just getting everybody now!
Jessie: I know, because it’s so fun and different. The main series I do is the Flat White series, which is a series about Tasmanian cousins, and it’s just great for us to do an accent. Katie’s character is just wicked, the total opposite of what people would think. And Rupert, as well, is so keen to do it, and it’s just the opposite of what people would think. And it’s fun, it’s short, it’s quick and easy. And it’s so nice because people feel like they can relate to it in a funny way, and I’m just lucky to be able to do it.
Thanks to SnitchSeeker, make sure to read their full interview with Jessie at the previous link!!

In a new interview with Empire, Oliver Phelps briefly touches on Matthew Lewis and his character Neville Longbottom.
The way that Rowling wrote the final battle, you don’t quite know how it’s going to go, and it seems like there will be surprises for everyone there.
Especially when it all goes the wrong way! When the good guys are falling by the wayside and when you see that in the picture itself it looks really harsh. There are some cool elements in it, like when you see Matt Lewis in the battle. That’s quite funny because, again, you see a totally different side to his character [Neville Longbottom]. I think you see every character in a different light, which is great.
When we were photographing some of you guys today, it was clear that there’s a genuine friendship between you all.
There is! We’ve been together for 10 years, so we’re going to form these bonds with people. Especially at the time when you’re all together, you’re growing up and discovering who you are, so through that you have common interests, like with Rupert [Grint] especially. It’s just how you see it in the films really; we all take the mick out of each other and hang out with each other. The same with Matt [Lewis] and Tom [Felton]: with Matt, we went to see The Doves just before Christmas and it was a really good night out. And we play golf with Tom. There’s a cool mix of people who we still talk to and see outside of filming.

Matthew Lewis has been named an official Yorkshire Patron by tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire. Other stars that have been given this honor include Michael Vaughan, Sir Michael Parkinson and Sir Patrick Stewart. Matt had this to say; “It’s an honour to be made an official Yorkshire patron and join such a prestigious list of people. Everywhere I go in the world I always end up promoting Leeds and Yorkshire as it’s the best place in the world, and you can’t keep me away for long! I’d like to thank the team at Welcome to Yorkshire and look forward to promoting the region.”
Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Gary Verity said he was “delighted” to have Matthew on board. Mr Verity told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “His talent on the big screen in the hugely successful Harry Potter films has seen him become internationally famous and we look forward to seeing him fly the flag for Yorkshire to raise the county’s profile across the world.”
