New Photo and Interview with Matthew Lewis

The Bradford Telegraph and Argus have posted a new interview and brand new promotional shot of Matthew Lewis in The Syndicate. Read the full interview at the previous link or in the press archive and see the photo in the gallery.

“Jamie is a drug-taking, mouthy scallywag and Neville is a shy boy wizard who’s afraid of his own shadow. On the surface they’re worlds apart. However, when you scratch below that surface they have similarities,” said Matthew. “I wanted to play Jamie from the moment I read the script. The fact that he was a ‘bad lad’ didn’t really factor in my decision. I just knew I wanted to tell Jamie’s story. A lot of people will dislike him and will find him on the surface to be a pretty disagreeable bloke. He’s been through a lot but I’m not asking people to justify his behaviour, I just hope they understand it on a human level. That for me is the challenge.”

The movie franchise [Harry Potter] came to an end last year with the release of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Matthew, who went to St Mary’s School in Menston and Scala Performing Arts School in Horsforth, told the T&A: “Those films are classics, I’m proud to be part of that. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and to think our films will be ranked alongside those in years to come is incredible.”

There is also a new behind the scenes shot from The Grocer as well as another new promotional photo featuring the cast.

The Syndicate to Air March 27th at 9pm on BBC1

Matthew Lewis’ brother, Anthony (also an actor), has revealed via his Twitter that The Syndicate will be premiering on March 27th.

I have just been told by Kay Mellor that The Syndicate will be starting on 27th March at 9pm on BBC1. Be there!

BBC have posted the synopsis for the first episode and it is as follows:

In a new five-part drama for BBC One, written by Kay Mellor, The Syndicate tells the story of five workers at a cut-price supermarket in Leeds whose lives are turned upside down after they jointly win the lottery.

In episode one, local Right Buy U supermarket in Leeds is threatened with closure, spiralling its five staff, Bob, Stuart, Denise, Leanne and Jamie into an uncertain future.

Faced with the prospect of losing his young family if he doesn’t get hold of some cash quickly, assistant manager Stuart Bradley and his younger brother Jamie are forced to take matters into their own hands, with dramatic consequences for store manager Bob.

Just when it seems things can’t get any worse the unthinkable happens: 18 million pounds falls into their laps. Is the money going to be the answer to all their problems, or is life about to get a whole lot more complicated?

Matthew Lewis Talks ‘The Syndicate’

In another new interview, this time with The Press Association, Matthew Lewis talks about his character Jamie in The Syndicate, which airs his month.

“Jamie is a drug-taking, mouthy scallywag from a council estate in Leeds and Neville is a shy, reserved boy wizard who’s afraid of his own shadow. On the surface they are world’s apart. However, when you scratch below that surface they have similarities,” he said. “I connected with the character of Jamie instantly and wanted to play him from the moment I read the script. The fact that he was a ‘bad lad’ didn’t really factor in my decision making. I just knew I wanted to tell Jamie’s story and thankfully Kay granted me that opportunity,” the 22-year-old said.

“A lot of people will dislike him and they will find him on the surface to be a pretty disagreeable bloke. He’s been through a lot but I’m not asking people to justify his behaviour, I just hope they understand it on a human level. That for me is the challenge, and that is what drew me to him. I’m really passionate about this guy and this story.”

New Photos and Interview with Matthew for The Syndicate

The BBC has posted two new photos as well as an interview with Matthew Lewis for his upcoming show The Syndicate.  You can read the full interview at the previous link or in the press archive! View the two new photos in the gallery!

Jamie gets to wear some sharp suits in the drama – do you like his look and are they the sort of things you would wear?

Half and half! Once Jamie wins the money he becomes very flash, very flamboyant. He’s a lad from a council estate who jumps head first into the seedy world of adult entertainment. He tries to dress in what he thinks he should be dressing in but he doesn’t quite get it right.

Some of his earlier gear is not my cup of tea. However, as Jamie settles in and things start to go right for him he grows in confidence and he starts to dress more confidently with it. His suits become less flashy and more elegant. Towards the end he looks much more like he belongs in the world of the rich rather just a pretender. You’re almost proud of him and some of that later gear I could wear definitely.

Fellow cast member Matthew McNulty, who plays Jamie’s brother Stuart, also discussed working with Matt:

Stuart has a complicated relationship with his brother Jamie, played by Matthew Lewis; did you and Matthew get on well on set?

Matthew McNulty: Yeah, he’s a top lad, Matt – we share a lot of common interests and have a similar sense of humour so we got on really well. We also both have brothers and understand how you can have an eruption of extreme hatred for your brother one minute then vehemently defend them the next, as is commonly the case with Stuart and Jamie.

He’s a cracking actor that really brought Jamie to life for me and definitely enhanced my own performance. I always enjoyed working with Matt because I totally believe everything he was doing and found him great company to be around on set.

Finally, Kay Mellor, the writer discussed Matthew’s audition:

You have a great cast in The Syndicate – did you have these actors in mind when you wrote the characters?

Joanna Page and Matthew Lewis both walked into the audition room and the part was theirs – they were so brilliant.
