The Syndicate Picked Up for Second Season; Review; New Photos

Because of it’s great success, The Syndicate has been picked up for a second season (or series for those of you in the UK). This season will not follow the same winners, but I think it deserved a post anyhow.  Congratulations to Kay Mellor and the whole team behind The Syndicate.

The second series of The Syndicate, which will follow the fortunes of a new group of lottery winners, has been commissioned by Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC Drama and by Danny Cohen, controller of BBC One.

Speaking about the series success Danny Cohen said: “The Syndicate has been a big hit with BBC One viewers. I’m greatly looking forward to seeing what Kay Mellor and the team dream up for a new set of lottery winners.”

Kay Mellor who wrote and produced the series said: “I am thrilled by the response of viewers to The Syndicate. I enjoyed every minute I worked on the series, from the writing of the scripts to working on set. I am delighted that Rollem Productions are able to bring a second series to BBC One.”

The Telegraph posted up a review of the final episode of the season yesterday, read the full thing here and a snippet below (spoilers)

The central truism – that money doesn’t buy you happiness – could so easily have felt heavy handed, but the quality of script and cast lent a real lightness of touch. The idea was simply conveyed in the posture of Jamie Bradley (Matthew Lewis) as he slumped next to his brother’s pool in a fluffy dressing gown, thwarted in love, plagued by his past, the light from the water rippling softly along the walls. His turn as the troubled bad boy, part bruiser, part broken, was particularly strong.

Finally, I also added a couple of new photos to the gallery yesterday: one from the Empire Awards and another from The Syndicate.

New Article, Photo from The Syndicate

Yet another new photo of Matthew Lewis in The Syndicate has surfaced online along with an article on The Mirror’s website. You can see the new photo in the gallery and read a snippet from the article below (there are spoilers so beware):

Tonight it’s Jamie’s story and we get more of an understanding about why he’s such a plank. You’ll still hate him, though.

While we wait to see if he’ll get his comeuppance for his part in the store robbery, Bob gets married and then has the op that could save his life.

And, following last week’s fabulous plot twist Leanne, (Joanna Page) faces court.

New Photo from The Syndicate; Transcript from Sara Cox Interview

Today we have two little bits of news. The first is a new promotional photo of Matthew Lewis from The Syndicate which you can view in the gallery.

Second, thanks to Kerstin, we have the full transcript from Matthew’s radio appearance on the Sara Cox show on BBC Radio One.  You can read the full interview in the press archive! In the interview he talks about The Syndicate, Harry Potter, Rugby, his “lucky number” and more.

Sara: Now do you have season ticket with rugby? Can you get season tickets for these?

Matt: Yeah, you can indeed yeah. Longstanding at Headingly stadium yeah

Sara: Oh lovely. Do you ever get recognized? Was it tricky because you were in all eight Harry Potter films, so did you get recognized when you used to go to rugby?

Matt: Yeah a little bit. To be honest with you, the last couple of weeks it’s been more about The Syndicate, which has been a bit different. Um, you know sort of people don’t even mention Harry Potter, which is quite strange.

Sara: Oh, beautifully and subtly brought on to your new show that your plugging there.

Matt: Yeah, put that in there

Sara: I must say were looking at pictures of you here, we will definitely get on to The Syndicate in a moment. When you were Neville Longbottom, how should I put this, well I bet your mother loved your face, but you were a little bit porkier, you were a little, especially when you were very young. Then is it true when you were in the latter film they had to ugly you up a little bit because you had gone to darn handsome.

Matt: Um, well I certainly had to have quite a bit of makeup on in the last film or so, for whatever reason, I have no idea why. But um.

Sara: I bet when you walk on set they go, “oh no.” Because it probably happened with all the stars, I mean with Emma and with all of them where they just walk on set and suddenly they look a bit more chiseled and grown up and a bit like they’ve grown. Because kids take time to grow into their faces don’t they?

Matt: Yeah absolutely

Sara: And they were all “oh no Matthew’s gone all handsome on us.”

Matt: Well we all started at the ages of sort of nine, ten, eleven, and then finished when we were about twenty so

Don’t forget to catch the final episode of The Syndicate tonight at 9pm on BBC One!

Matthew Talks The Syndicate with Digital Spy

In a new interview with Digital Spy, Matthew talks about what it’s like being known for The Syndicate rather than Harry Potter. The final episode of The Syndicate will be airing tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC1, but I’m sure they will be re-airing the show more after that, so be sure to check your local listings.

“I had a couple of people stop me last week and ask ‘Are you in The Syndicate?’ rather than Harry Potter,” he told Digital Spy. “It’s been the first time I’ve ever been stopped and the person hasn’t asked about Potter. That’s a new experience and I didn’t think that would happen so quickly. I don’t want to act as if Harry Potter wasn’t the most amazing thing because it truly was, but it’s also great personally that I’m starting to see signs that I can move on from it and do other stuff that hopefully people enjoy.”

However, Lewis commented that fans of The Syndicate have not always taken to troubled character Jamie Bradley. “People seem to have really taken to the program, which is fantastic,” he said. “Most people aren’t too fond of my character Jamie, though, and they¹ve let me know… If I’m honest, Neville is clearly the better person but Jamie is a lot more fun to play.”
