Listen to Matthew on The Art Show this Friday

Matthew Lewis will be a guest on The Art Show with Claudia Winkleman this Friday, September 21st.  Ha and his Our Boys co-star Arthur Darvill will be talking about the play with Claudia at 10pm. We will post the interview here as soon as it’s available.

Our Boys begins previews next week at the Duchess Theatre and will be there for a limited 12-week season from 26 September. Matthew plays Gunner Michael Speedy aka “Mick” in the play, which focuses on the lives of injured soldiers. Tickets may be purchased at the Our Boys official site.

Five young soldiers are killing nothing but time as they recover from injuries incurred in the line of duty. Suddenly, their daily routine of TV, lonely hearts ads and banter is shattered by the arrival of a young officer. The camaraderie of this unlikely band of brothers is soon jeopardised by a dangerous incident and an act of betrayal.

With charges of misconduct looming, accusations fly – and the fighting really starts. Fired by anger at the neglect of our wounded heroes, OUR BOYS remains as relevant now as was in 1993, when it won a Best New Play award. This first West End production comes from the creative team behind international hit Journey’s End.

Photos: Our Boys Rehearsal Photographs

For those of you that don’t religiously check our gallery, yesterday I added a bunch of new photos from the rehearsals of Our Boys that were taken last week.  The photos show Matthew along with costars Cian Barry, Jolyon Coy, Arthur Darvill, Laurence Fox, and Lewis Reeves reading through their scripts on August 30th.  They were taken by photographer Geraint Lewis and were posted on the play’s Facebook page.

The play begins previews on September 26ths and runs until December. You can purchase tickets at the Official website.

OUR BOYS is both searingly honest and explosively funny.

Audio: Matthew Lewis on BBC’s One on One

This afternoon Matthew Lewis was a guest on One on One with Liz Green where he discussed getting into acting, Harry Potter, watching himself act, friendships, living in Leeds and much more.  He also chooses some songs that they play during the hour.  The audio is now available on the BBC iPlayer, Matthew’s segment starts at 3:10.  If anyone would like to write a transcript for us, please do and send it in to webmiss[at]magical-menagerie[dot]com

Of note in the interview he mentions that he starts rehearsals for his new play, Our Boys, next week.  The play will run from October 3rd, with previews starting September 26th. He also teases something, possibly related to Wasteland, but says it’s a secret and he can’t share. He did say a trailer should be coming out soon, with the movie hopefully releasing by the end of this year.

He also promotes the song Our Time, by Chris Stocks, that is being sold to raise money for charity.  You can purchase the song on iTunes with all proceeds after iTunes commission to CANCER RESEARCH UK. There is also an accompanying video that you can watch on YouTube. The video was directed by his brother Anthony Lewis with cinematography by Chris Lewis and starring Bill Ward, Laura Carter & Sam Cunningham.
