Matthew Lewis Talks Potter with Radio Times

In the latest issue of Radio Times, they interview a bunch of Potter stars including Matthew Lewis. See a scan from the issue in the gallery! In the article, he says:

I was a huge fan of the books. My mum always reminds me of the time I begged: “If they make a film, will you take me to see it?” Little did I dream I would be in it!
“In the first couple of films, I looked like Neville was supposed to. But when it came to the third film, I suddenly got taller and slimmer, so they had to make me geekier. I had a fat suit and false teeth. I tried to be professional about it but I was 15 and on set with girls – there were definitely times I wished I were a more macho character! In this last film, we’ve got rid of the fat suit and Neville has some really cool action scenes. Playing the hero is definitely something I could get used to.”

New Matthew Lewis Interview

RedEye has posted up a new interview they had with Matthew Lewis. In the interview he talks mostly about Neville and Harry Potter but also talks about some other topics. Read the full interview here or in the press archive.

Where were you when you first heard or read that Neville was going to be such a big deal in this last movie?

I was in bed, where I usually am. I’m quite lazy, you see, as I’ve just been in bed there. I was in bed and I was reading the book, and it was one of those things … like, I’d get a new book and I’d just, I’d wake up and I’d read them all day, in bed, and I just wouldn’t get up until I finished them. And that’s what I was doing. And J.K. Rowling had told me a few years previously that she’d just finished the book and that she’d written this amazing bit for Neville Longbottom. And she wouldn’t tell me what it is, but that it was going to be good. So then I read the book and was just totally blown away by it, really. It was amazing, really. I read it as a fan first, as I always do, you know, I read it as a fan and got lost in the whole world, and then all of a sudden, when you turn half a page, and you think, “Wow.” And you go back and you look at it and you go, “Jeez, that’s going to be incredible.”

TwitchFilm Interviews Matthew Lewis

Matthew Lewis recently spoke to TwitchFilm about the Harry Potter films and more! Read the full interview at the previous link or in the press archive.

What sort of life’s lessons did Potter offer? Nothing to harsh, or tough. A big one is to make sure you take all the praise with a pinch of salt. It is wonderful to hear people praise you but that’s one reason I still live in Leeds and have the same friends I did before Potter sort of took over. I can go back to Yorkshire and no one cares, they’re just glad to see me. Sean Bean is from my hometown as well and he’s talked about that. Where I live is pretty gritty, down to earth.

You have to be prepared. You never know how this industry is going to work out. My brother is an actor and he was on a big UK soap opera for awhile. he got to be pretty famous. That ended. He’s coming back from a couple of years of hard lean times, no work coming thru etc. That was hard for me to watch him go thru. He’s a bloody good actor but he’s had to struggle. As long as I can remember how tough it can get I’ll be alright I think.

So nothing firm waiting at this point? Oh I’ve got some scripts upstairs actually that I’m supposed to be reading and a couple of meetings I need to schedule as soon as I get back but nothing that I’m 100% lined up for. I am lined up for football season though. My time off is going to start right at the beginning of it eh! Brilliant. I can’t wait. I only got to attend four games last year.
