‘The Sweet Shop’ Update

The Sweet Shop‘s Official Twitter has let fans know that the movie is getting closer to having a distributor, which means it’s closer to being released to the public!  Matthew filmed The Sweet Shop back in 2010 and the film was supposed to be released that year, but the release was pushed back when they tragically lost a member of the cast (after filming had completed).  Since then MWS Media have been trying to find a distributor for the film and they tweeted today:

After a very long journey and some late editorial changes we’re now one step closer to #distribution of #theSweetShopMovie

The film is the story of a rock star that returns to the village where he grew up when his estranged Mother dies. He finds many of his childhood friends – including local Sweet Shop owner Katie Powell – have never left. Matthew plays the role of “The Reporter” trying to get the dirt on rock star Jarvis.

Back in December the studio released a trailer for the film which can be viewed here if you missed it the first time around:

Normally this wouldn’t deserve a post but a lot of fans have been asking about the film recently.  More news will be posted as it develops.

Role: Matthew Voices Character in ‘Night of the Loving Dead’

As I posted in passing last month, Matthew has lent his voice to the character of Nigel in Night of the Loving Dead. Today I have a few more details to share with you.  The film was made by the National Film and Television School, is 8 minutes and 53 second long and is a 2D Computer-Generated Silhouette Animation (similar to The Tale of the Three Brothers in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.)  The synopsis of the short is as follows:

A zombie movie with more heart than brains.

Nigel is a lovesick teenager living under the tyranny of his wicked sex-obsessed stepmother, Barbara. But he gets more than he bargained for on Valentine’s Eve when he accidentally brings his old girlfriend, Felicity, back from the dead.

A high resolution promotional photo of Matthew’s character Nigel and his dead girlfirend, Felicity, may be seen in the gallery as well as a poster.

The film is also going to be part of the Annecy Film Festival in June, it is one of the “Official Selections” under the Graduate Film category; it’s page may be seen here. There is a large possibility that the short will be screened during the festival but the program has not been released as of yet.

I am trying to find out more information, such as a release date (if any) and will post as soon as I find out more. I am not sure the film will ever be released publicly as it was part of a school project, but perhaps if there is enough interest they will release it.

Matthew Talks The Syndicate with Digital Spy

In a new interview with Digital Spy, Matthew talks about what it’s like being known for The Syndicate rather than Harry Potter. The final episode of The Syndicate will be airing tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC1, but I’m sure they will be re-airing the show more after that, so be sure to check your local listings.

“I had a couple of people stop me last week and ask ‘Are you in The Syndicate?’ rather than Harry Potter,” he told Digital Spy. “It’s been the first time I’ve ever been stopped and the person hasn’t asked about Potter. That’s a new experience and I didn’t think that would happen so quickly. I don’t want to act as if Harry Potter wasn’t the most amazing thing because it truly was, but it’s also great personally that I’m starting to see signs that I can move on from it and do other stuff that hopefully people enjoy.”

However, Lewis commented that fans of The Syndicate have not always taken to troubled character Jamie Bradley. “People seem to have really taken to the program, which is fantastic,” he said. “Most people aren’t too fond of my character Jamie, though, and they¹ve let me know… If I’m honest, Neville is clearly the better person but Jamie is a lot more fun to play.”

Matthew Lewis on the Sara Cox Show on BBC Radio1

This morning Matthew Lewis was on the Sara Cox radio show on BBC Radio 1 to talk about The Syndicate as well as much more! The description of the show states: “Matthew Lewis chats to Sara about his latest show on BBC 1 The Syndicate, what it’s like being so good looking and his tattoo of number 11.”

Listen here, Matthew is on at about 1:50:45 and it continues until 1:58:00. You have 7 days left to listen and if anyone has time to do a transcript, please do and I’ll post it with a credit to you.

Don’t forget that the last episode of The Syndicate is on this Tuesday at 9pm and BBC1, this is the episode centered around Matthew’s character, Jamie.

New Photo of Matthew Lewis in Wasteland

This morning the Wasteland Facebook page asked fans to like their status to reveal a new promotional shot of Matthew Lewis and Luke Treadaway  in the film! Luke plays the main protagonist in the film while Matthew plays one of his friends, Dodd. They have since released the image, which can be found, in super high resolution, in the gallery!

Wasteland finished filming earlier in the month and is slated for release later this year.  More news and photos will be posted as they are released! For those of you that missed in previous posts, the synopsis of the film is as follows:

Battered, bruised and under arrest, Harvey Denton sits in a police interview room facing interrogation. Clutching a stack of eyewitness statements, Detective Inspector West has no doubt as to Harvey’s part in a foiled robbery, and his subsequent attempted murder of local businessman Steven Roper.

Denying nothing, Harvey agrees to tell his version of events in full. We take in his release from prison a month earlier, and the malevolent, unjust act that put him there. We see his emotional reunion with his sibling-like best friends, and theimmovable loyalty they have for one another. We see the rekindling of a lost love, a second chance for two people meant for each other. We see the ingenious planning of the ill-fated robbery, the amazing twist, the shocking outcome, and the real driving force behind it – retribution. What unfolds is an exhilarating, moving and hilarious story of loyalty, jealousy, friendship, revenge and the pursuit of happiness.
