Matthew Lewis Talks Life Post Potter

In a quick new interview with the Daily Mail, Matthew talk about his life post-Harry Potter.

While many of his co-stars were devastated to see the end of the Harry Potter franchise, which they had filmed for more than half of their young lives, Matthew Lewis was not broken-hearted.

Although fond of his on-screen alter ego Neville Longbottom, Matthew is glad to see the back of Neville’s fat suit, false teeth and sticky-out ear moulds. ‘I already knew I was not the best looking guy in the world, but when you are a teenager, and someone is making you look so much worse — and in front of millions of people — it is quite hard to take,’ he says. ‘I hated the fat suit the most. When I was ten, I’d started off looking like Neville — but as I got older, I got taller and slimmed down, so they made me wear this suit. God, I hated it.’

Just how different Matthew looked from his alter ego became clear when he showed up at the final London Harry Potter premiere, looking more classically handsome than any of his co-stars.

‘Most of us in the Potter films have had to start again,’ says 23-year-old Matthew. He has already been on TV in the successful drama The Syndicate, and has just finished his first post Potter film, Wasteland. ‘Like Harry Potter and everyone at Hogwarts, I’m still learning,’ he smiles.

The Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9 3/4 Officially Opening This Weekend

Since Matthew news is a little slow at the moment I thought I would share a bit of Potter news today, courtesy of Magical-Menagerie. This morning we have some exciting news for Potter fans who frequently visit Kings Cross station (or for those of you who will be visiting London.) We posted quite some time ago about the new location of Platform 9 ¾ within the station and the possibility of a store.  Well, today we can officially announce that The Harry Potter™ Shop At Platform 9 ¾ will open its doors to the public on Saturday, 15th December 2012 at 7:30 am. The shop will be open 7 days a week from 7:30am-10pm and is located at Unit 1, King’s Cross Station, London N1 9AP.

Situated near the platform 9 ¾ trolley at London’s newly refurbished King’s Cross Station, the shop will sell items such as golden platform 9 ¾ collectible train tickets, wands, robes, uniforms and other collectibles in homage to the successful Harry Potter™ film franchise and book series.

THE HARRY POTTER™ SHOP AT PLATFORM 9 ¾ has been produced by Jonathan Sands (Founder and Chief Executive of London Film Museum) and partners, under license from Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Speaking ahead of the launch of the shop just in time for Christmas 2012, Jonathan Sands of London Film Museum and Platform 9 ¾ K1ngs Cross Ltd said “ We are proud to be opening the official Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9 ¾ in association with Warner Bros. Consumer Products as this is precisely where Harry’s journey to Hogwarts began. King’s Cross Station has recently undergone the most amazing re-development and we are delighted to be a part of it thanks to Network Rail.”

Matthew Talks ‘Our Boys’ and Post-Potter with Mirror Online

In a new interview with Mirror Online, Matthew talks about Our Boys and his life post-Harry Potter and how he still disagrees when people call hima “hunk” and more. Of his reaction to the recent obsession with his looks he says:

“It was just a few good camera angles in New York,” he says. “I wasn’t attractive when I was growing up and I don’t think I am now. It was never something I associated with me, ever, so it came as a shock. It was never, like, ‘Let me take these ears off then you’ll see’.”

He says: “Julia Roberts says it in Notting Hill. ‘Eventually, people will realise that I can’t act and I’m not that good-looking’ and stuff. You’re just thinking, ‘Tomorrow they’re going to figure it out.’ […] It was very nice to hear it said about me – very humbling, you know – it’s just a lot of pressure.”

In the interview he discusses Our Boys and how his character Mick, has some similarities with Neville:

There are a lot of similarities between my character Mick and Neville – he’s the butt of a lot of jokes. He’s a soldier, talking about sex and being overtly racist and sexist because he doesn’t know any better. Potter fans won’t expect that but hopefully he’s not too far detached that they get upset about it.”

The play is set in a military hospital and the central theme is the camaraderie between the sick soldiers. “The research was meticulous,” says Matt. “We had a lecture from an officer about the army of 1984 – it was a peacetime army. Lads were in Germany or sunbathing in Cyprus. But it’s also about the boredom of the 80s. People only had three TV channels, Betamax and a Walkman. They have to entertain themselves by playing pranks on people.”

He also talks about some of his jobs when he was first starting out:

“The fact that I was in Sharpe – for one scene as ‘boy in workplace’ – that is the pinnacle of my career to him because I was with the King of Yorkshire, Sean Bean. [see a photo here]

“I was the face of Warburton’s when I was little too. That’s a close second.”
