New Interview in the Yorkshire Post

The Yorkshire Post has a new interview with Matt where he talks about Harry Potter, his teeth, girls and more!

During that time the studio bosses not only made him wear a fat suit, they went so far as to push his ears forward with stuck-on bits of plastic. As for the teeth, they practically begged him not to get them bleached.

“It just helps with the whole image of Neville.” says Lewis. “He’s not supposed to look like Brad Pitt, the character is described in the book as being very round-faced.

“But from the third film onwards they started sticking the fat suit on because I just grew up. I simply grew taller and thinned out. As for the teeth, it was something I’d always wanted to do but it would have meant me wearing a brace for two years, which I just couldn’t do.

“In fact Warner Brothers said if I put it off until we’d finished filming they’d pay for it – and they did. But they were always keen for me to look less than perfect.”

So does he think he looks perfect now?

“Well…” laughs Lewis, clearly joking. “I don’t want to blow my own trumpet or anything…”

Second Part of Digital Spy Interview

Digital Spy have released the second part of their interview with Matthew Lewis where they continue to discuss the Potter films.  You can read the full interview at the previous link or in the press archive.

How would you describe the Neville we see in the final film?
“This year Neville’s been living underground. He’s this reluctant resistance leader who has stepped out from Harry’s shadow and taken over his role. He didn’t want to – he’d much rather just get by and keep his head down. But he realizes that no one else is going to do it and so he had to step forward. That’s the great thing about Neville. It’s the reason why he is in Gryffindor – no matter how scared he is of the situation, he still does the right thing. He’s got amazing loyalty and this courage. So he sees that no one else is going to take take over, so he’s got to do it. He becomes the leader that everyone trusts and he leads the students into battle in the end. From there, I got to do so much stuff. I got to do a few traditional sort of Neville light-hearted humor moments, but then a lot of action and stunts – which I’d never got to do before – and then some real emotional bits. At the end of the day, it’s war. These young kids are on the frontline and they are dying. David Yates (director) didn’t shy away from that. He kept it all in and you get to see, every time one of the students dies, Neville feels it. It’s great for an actor.”

Hero Complex Interviews Matthew Lewis

Hero Complex has posted a new interview with Matthew Lewis where he discusses the Potter series and Neville Longbottom. You can read the full interview at the previous link or in the press archive.

NC: What’s next for you? Well, TV or film. I’ll just do whatever I fancy. If someone wants to employ me, whoever wants to employ me, I’ll go and do that. I just want to work. I’m looking forward to doing different stuff and keeping my fingers crossed.

NC: I understand that you were a big fan of the books long before you were cast in the movies. I read all the books, and I said to my mom, when I was about 10 years old, I said, “If they make a film, will you take me to go see it?” But little did I know that I’d be in it. It’s pretty strange. I hope they enjoy it. I hope we got it right. The pressure’s on. We’ll see. … This film has just been so crucial for me, Neville being so integral in the story, and I just hope that everyone enjoys it. We’ve all been building up to this moment for 10 years, and being a fan of the books myself, I know I’m a part of that “everyone.”
