Review of Harry Potter Wizard’s Collection

Our partner site, Magical-Menagerie, had the opportunity of reviewing the newly released (in the US) Harry Potter Wizard’s Collection. The set was released on September 7th in the US and will be released on the 10th in the UK. Photos of the set may be viewed in their gallery.  Read the review, by Patrick, over at this page!

The Wizard Collection is all you could want in a complete box set. It’s got both the films and also exclusive memorabilia. However I must say, and this is now a very common trend, it was a little annoying that all the newest features are only available on the Blu Ray Discs, so to see the never before seen moments you will need a blu ray player. There has also been quite a stir online over the price and it is a little expensive at $US 350, and £178 but if you break it down to how much you would pay for each individual piece it adds up, but it’s just that if you have purchased the films along the way, you’re paying for what you already have.

Audio: Matthew Lewis on BBC’s One on One

This afternoon Matthew Lewis was a guest on One on One with Liz Green where he discussed getting into acting, Harry Potter, watching himself act, friendships, living in Leeds and much more.  He also chooses some songs that they play during the hour.  The audio is now available on the BBC iPlayer, Matthew’s segment starts at 3:10.  If anyone would like to write a transcript for us, please do and send it in to webmiss[at]magical-menagerie[dot]com

Of note in the interview he mentions that he starts rehearsals for his new play, Our Boys, next week.  The play will run from October 3rd, with previews starting September 26th. He also teases something, possibly related to Wasteland, but says it’s a secret and he can’t share. He did say a trailer should be coming out soon, with the movie hopefully releasing by the end of this year.

He also promotes the song Our Time, by Chris Stocks, that is being sold to raise money for charity.  You can purchase the song on iTunes with all proceeds after iTunes commission to CANCER RESEARCH UK. There is also an accompanying video that you can watch on YouTube. The video was directed by his brother Anthony Lewis with cinematography by Chris Lewis and starring Bill Ward, Laura Carter & Sam Cunningham.

Happy Birthday, Neville Longbottom!!

Today, July 30th, marks Neville Longbottom’s 32nd birthday! As we all know Neville was a key player in the defeat of the Dark Lord in 1998. Neville lead the rebellion of the students in his Seventh year at Hogwarts and pulled Gryffindor’s Sword from the Sorting Hat to behead Voldemort’s Final horcrux, Nagini. After the Battle of Hogwarts, Neville became an Auror for a short time.

Currently Neville is married to Hannah Abbott (of Hufflepuff) and is the Herbology Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Neville’s creator, J.K. Rowling has this to say:

I love Neville. I love Neville so much. Always loved Neville. And I always had big plans for Neville, you know? And he really was The Boy It Could’ve Been, because as you know, as I made clear, he was born hours before Harry, he was born on the 30th of July, Voldemort singled him out as the other possibility. But the great thing about Neville’s story for me, the over-arching story about Neville, is that he proves himself to be a boy who could’ve done it too. Yeah, Harry had the scar and arguably, Harry had an edge more talent because Harry– he has an extraordinary instinct for the right thing to do. He’s just got the right instinct, and that’s what would make him, in due course, a phenomenal Auror. But Neville was, I think, amazing in the final battle, and proved himself a hundred times over worthy of being a Gryffindor, his parents’ son, despite the very difficult childhood he had in the hands of his very pushy grandmother, and I know, she loves him and he loves her, but she’s not an easy person to be raised by. So yeah, so that for me, was the big thing about Neville. x
