Happy Birthday, Neville Longbottom!

Today is July 30th, and we all know what that means! Happy Birthday, Neville Longbottom!! Everyone’s favorite herbology professor turns 34 today. Without Neville, many of us would not be fans of Matt Lewis, and what a shame that would be!

If Rita Skeeter is to be believed (via new Pottermore content) Neville is apparently an alcoholic and still teaching at the school. But when does Rita ever report the truth? So we say Neville is find and happy!

J.K. Rowling speaks very kindly of the lovely Neville:

I love Neville. I love Neville so much. Always loved Neville. And I always had big plans for Neville, you know? And he really was The Boy It Could’ve Been, because as you know, as I made clear, he was born hours before Harry, he was born on the 30th of July, Voldemort singled him out as the other possibility. But the great thing about Neville’s story for me, the over-arching story about Neville, is that he proves himself to be a boy who could’ve done it too. Yeah, Harry had the scar and arguably, Harry had an edge more talent because Harry– he has an extraordinary instinct for the right thing to do. He’s just got the right instinct, and that’s what would make him, in due course, a phenomenal Auror. But Neville was, I think, amazing in the final battle, and proved himself a hundred times over worthy of being a Gryffindor, his parents’ son, despite the very difficult childhood he had in the hands of his very pushy grandmother, and I know, she loves him and he loves her, but she’s not an easy person to be raised by. So yeah, so that for me, was the big thing about Neville. x

E! Rides the Hogwarts Express with Matt

EXTRA:

DailyMail Interview:

‘My character never really went to Gringotts, which is why I’ve enjoyed it so much because I never really got to go onto the set.

‘I never even saw it, so when I got to the bank today that was the first time and it’s pretty special.

‘I don’t even know why I’m here,’ he joked. ‘I’ve just come down for a free ride really.’

Mashable Interview:

Where would your characters spend time in Universal Studios? Neville would just get lost. Or maybe it would be Jurassic Park because there is lots of foliage around and he likes foliage.

What wizarding power do you wish you had in real life? ‘Accio,’ because I’m a lazy koala bear, and I would love to use spells to get things.

If your Harry Potter characters had to get Muggle jobs, what would they be? A traffic warden, giving tickets out … parking tickets. It’s just a little bit of authority but not enough responsibility. (Evanna strongly disagreed, and insisted Neville would have been a baker.)

What are your favorite parts of the new addition to the theme park? Gringotts Wizarding Bank. It was a set that I’m unfamiliar with, because I wasn’t apart of the scenes shot there. So when I went into Gringotts at Diagon Alley, that was my first experience with it. I got to experience it like the fans, and it sort of blew me away.

What part of the Wizarding World theme park most greatly resembles the sets for the movies? The locations created [in The Wizarding World theme park] are more accurate than our sets were. Our sets had a lot of cameras and facades, but here, it’s completely immersive. You can go down the alleyways and go into the shops. They painstakingly went over the movies and the books…it’s absolutely amazing how so much of it is so accurate.
