Tomorrow, Matthew Lewis will be one of the celebrities reading winning entries from Radio 2’s 500 WORDS.
The six winners of this year’s 500 WORDS will be announced on-air on Friday 30 May at a very special broadcast of The Chris Evans Breakfast Show from the Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts. Lord of Downton, Hugh Bonneville, chart-topper Paloma Faith, Harry Potter hero Matthew Lewis, Blue Peter’s Barney Harwood and Sherlock’s Amanda Abbington will be amongst the celebs on hand to bring the top tales to life!
A little background on the competition is as follows:
500 WORDS is the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show’s short story writing competition for children aged 13 and under. Launched by Chris Evans back in 2011, the competition attracted 118,632 entries in its fourth year and picked up the Silver Award in the Best Competition Category at the 2014 Radio Academy Awards.
Earlier this year, children were invited to compose an original work of fiction, using no more than 500 words. The entries were marked by 3,500 volunteer teachers and librarians, from around the UK, before the Scottish Book Trust drew up a shortlist of 50 stories.
Thanks to Sophie for the tip!

Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 2:46 pm | Comments Off on Anthony Lewis’ Totally Lit Expanding To Leeds |
Back in August we reported about Totally Lit, a drama school started by Matthew Lewis’ older brother, Anthony. They will be expanding to Leeds in February and Matt will once again be a guest mentor in the Masterclass program. There is a special new site, Totally Lit North, for the Leeds location. Last night they held a launch event, photos from Matt at the event may be viewed in the gallery. Additionally, the brothers chatted with BBC Radio Leeds this morning, you can listen to that here.
Anthony discussed the program and why he started it with North Leeds Life Magazine:
“Many people will think that it’s just another drama school, but what we are doing is unique”, says Artistic Director Anthony Lewis. “We are offering up to 40 young people an amazing opportunity to work on a regular basis with genuine British Talent and all of the artists have such great reputations, not only as good actors, but as disciplined and focused professionals. We think this is hugely significant and this makes everyone that we work with to be a relevant and pertinent role model for our students.
“Being a former child actor from Leeds myself, I am fully aware of the huge amount of talent in this area and I am very excited to be working with and encouraging the next crop of young talented actors, as they take their first steps in a hugely competitive industry.”
Of helping out with the program, Matt says:
I am really proud to be a Patron of Totally Lit. As a former child actor myself, I can see the huge value in fine-tuning the key skills needed to work in this industry as a professional. The work that the creative team are doing is fantastic and something I would have hugely benefitted from at that age.
Auditions for the first term are on February 9th and you can sign up for a slot on the website. Audition information is as follows:
All prospective students will be invited to attend either a free taster/sampling session, or a one hour open workshop audition. The purpose of this is to assess each of the candidates, over a range of disciplines, including improvisation and scripted tasks. Although we will be using it as an opportunity to assess you, we will treat it as a regular session and hope that it gives you some idea of how things work, week in, week out.
In addition to looking for very talented young people, we are also looking for people who display a good, positive attitude and can work quickly and co-operatively with others.
AGE GROUPS:
11-14 Years Sunday 10:30am – 1:30pm
15-19 Years Sunday 2:30pm – 5:30pmCOST…

Today I have two fun exclusives for you all! First up is a behind the scenes shot from a photoshoot that Matthew did in London today. You can see that here in the gallery! The photos were being taken for various press needs, that will be coming up, including the announcement of some new roles for Matthew! I will hopefully be announcing the roles exclusively on the site when the time arrives.
Secondly, Matthew will be a presenter at the Radio 1 Teen Awards which are taking place this Sunday and can be watched online here from 1pm – 5pm London time. We do not know what category he will be presenting, but as soon as it is revealed I will be posting it on the site. Tom Felton will also be presenting an award at the ceremony and there is a small possibility that they could be presenting an award together, but those details will be announced soon, stay tuned!
Thanks to Multitude Media for both pieces of news!
