Matthew Lewis Talks Harry Potter

In an interview with Fandango, Matthew Lewis dicusses Neville’s role in the Harry Potter films as well as his career and much more, some of this was already released with other set visits, but some is new.  The full interview can be read at the previous link or in the press archive!

Q. Does Neville receive a full makeover to show that he’s been fighting?
Lewis : Yes. This is only half of what we’ve got to come. A lot of stuff we’ve been doing has involved about another pint of blood more than this. The first week, it was really enjoyable. The novelty has definitely worn off. [To get the] the full thing on – a headpiece as well – it took two hours for the first few weeks. We’ve knocked it down to about an hour and a quarter now.

Q. When did you find out Neville was going bigger places?
Lewis : I found out when I finished [Order of the Phoenix]. I went to the bus stop in the morning and talked to my best mate. He said, “It’s good, isn’t it? You’re gonna have some wicked stuff to do!” I said, “Yeah, I can’t wait!”

Q. What would you be doing if not acting?
Lewis : Sitting on the sofa, watching TV. I’ve honestly no idea. From the age of 5, I’ve not wanted to be anything else. I’d probably be in the Army or something.

Matthew Lewis Talks to Digital Spy

Digital Spy has posted a new interview with Matthew Lewis where he talks about the Harry Potter series and more.  You can find the full interview in the press archive.

How have the Harry Potter stars stayed so grounded while American child actors seem to end up in rehab?
“That’s a tough one. I think Hollywood’s a very scary, intimidating place and you have to appear to be a lot more mature than you are because you’re working with adults all the time. I always went back home to Leeds and to my friends. There were so many of us at the studio as well we all messed around together – we were all in the same boat and were lucky we had each other. In Hollywood in a lot of those films – like Macaulay Culkin – they’ve starred in those films on their own and I imagine that’s really tough to do. We’ve always had people around us our own age. We see each other all the time, they all came up for my 21st birthday a few months ago and I went down for Dan’s. If we’ve got any issues we can talk to each other. ‘Have you ever had this?’ ‘Oh man – tell me about it!’ You get used to it and you talk to each other. I can’t speak for everyone but what’s helped me the most is living in Leeds. I still have the friends I had before Harry Potter and they’re the ones who keep me really grounded.”

Do you think the split was the best decision?
“I’m so confused about what’s in Part 1 and what’s in Part 2 so I’ve no idea where it splits but it was a good idea to split it. I like the idea of Part 1 being about the journey and the toll the journey has taken. It’s like Two Towers and Return Of The King from Lord Of The Rings. Part two was very much about Sam and Gollum and Frodo trying to get to Mordor and it was a tough journey and it was all about how stressful that was, then part three was very much about the fighting and the battles and the ultimate fight at the end.”

New Interview with Matthew from Chile

Cooperativa has a new interview with Matthew from when he was in Chile.  I put a rough translation in the press archive and you can read some segments below:

The British actor revealed that the dynamics of the seventh of the series is aimed at “the relationship of ‘Harry’, ‘Ron’ and ‘Hermione’ and how to test them on this impossible task entrusted to them” outside of school.”This is how, if kept together in their friendship can work things out,” he said.

Lewis defended the decision to split the final book in the saga into two movies, because “when you have a film of two hours, although it is long, you lose many things in the book because you have to restore things as they were before” .

Lewis also said that “Neville Longbottom” undergoes a major transformation in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and that the character will even have a great scene with “Voldemort.”
