‘Harry Potter’ actor plays part at opening of children’s centre

Published Date: 26 November 2007

There was magic in the air as an actor from Harry Potter joined young people in Sheffield to mark the opening of a new children’s centre.
Matthew Lewis, 19, who plays Neville Longbottom in the hit films, cut the tape with David Blunkett when the MP officially opened The Meadow Children’s Centre in Shirecliffe at the weekend.

The centre will offer key childcare, learning, health and family support services to families with children under five.

Manager Jo Zasada said: “We were really pleased to officially open our centre and thank both David Blunkett MP and Matthew Lewis for joining us.

“We hope lots of local families are inspired to come and visit us – there’s no need for an appoint-ment; they can just turn up and find out what we’re doing.”

Coun Harry Harpham, Cabinet member for children’s services, added: “All of the Children’s Centres that we have already opened are going from strength to strength, and families use them for child-care, health services, JobCentre Plus and family learning.

“It’s everything you need, on your doorstep.”
