Matt Lewis and Anthony Lewis Talk Totally Lit North

In a new interview on BBC Radio Leeds, Matthew Lewis and his brother Anthony discuss Totally Lit North, an acting school that Anthony founded and runs. They chatted with Wes Butters on July 21st about the school and what they are trying to accomplish.  Matthew and Anthony also talked about their various roles in the film industry, and of course Harry Potter came up.  Matt even talks about his audition process for getting the role of Neville. Preview of Matt Lewis’ Interview in JON

The Daily Mail has posted a preview of Matthew’s interview in JON magazine, which is available now (regular and special editions.) They also posted photos from the spread, some of which we already shared exclusively last week. Read a short preview from the issue below:

‘I am a massive geek in terms of TV that I watch. Well growing up I was a massive Star Wars fan. That was just my ultimate thing, I just wanted to be a Jedi, completely. And that flowed into Star Trek and all that kind of stuff.’

He also admitted being a closet musicals fans as he revealed how himself and a friend hid themselves with their hoods in a cinema full of women when he went to watch Meryl Strep in the Mammia Mia film adaption. Matthew joked: ‘And by the time it got to the end, you know where Meryl Streep comes out and asks do you want one more, and we were like, hoods off, yeah we do!’.

‘My roles have been very, very different from Neville. But it wasn’t by choice, I never called up my agent and said, right I don’t want to do this anymore, I want to be a rough northerner or I want to be a soldier, I never said that. They were just the roles that happened to come up, that I was drawn to, I liked them and I ended up getting them.’

Happy Birthday Matthew Lewis!

Today, June 27th, we celebrate Matt Lewis’ 25th birthday! Matt began acting at the age of 5 and came into our lives as Neville Longbottom in 2001. We’ve watched him grow into a talented actor on the stage, television and silver screen. Let’s hope we get to watch him charm our screens for years to come! Have an amazing day, Matt.

EXTRA:

DailyMail Interview:

‘My character never really went to Gringotts, which is why I’ve enjoyed it so much because I never really got to go onto the set.

‘I never even saw it, so when I got to the bank today that was the first time and it’s pretty special.

‘I don’t even know why I’m here,’ he joked. ‘I’ve just come down for a free ride really.’

Mashable Interview:

Where would your characters spend time in Universal Studios? Neville would just get lost. Or maybe it would be Jurassic Park because there is lots of foliage around and he likes foliage.

What wizarding power do you wish you had in real life? ‘Accio,’ because I’m a lazy koala bear, and I would love to use spells to get things.

If your Harry Potter characters had to get Muggle jobs, what would they be? A traffic warden, giving tickets out … parking tickets. It’s just a little bit of authority but not enough responsibility. (Evanna strongly disagreed, and insisted Neville would have been a baker.)

What are your favorite parts of the new addition to the theme park? Gringotts Wizarding Bank. It was a set that I’m unfamiliar with, because I wasn’t apart of the scenes shot there. So when I went into Gringotts at Diagon Alley, that was my first experience with it. I got to experience it like the fans, and it sort of blew me away.

What part of the Wizarding World theme park most greatly resembles the sets for the movies? The locations created [in The Wizarding World theme park] are more accurate than our sets were. Our sets had a lot of cameras and facades, but here, it’s completely immersive. You can go down the alleyways and go into the shops. They painstakingly went over the movies and the books…it’s absolutely amazing how so much of it is so accurate.
