Matt Lewis Cast in Series 4 of ‘Ripper Street’

Digital Spy reports this morning that Matthew Lewis has been cast in series 4 of Ripper Street. It is unknown who his character is, apart from being a policeman, but we will keep you updated as news develops. “From our new studio set in Ireland, it has been a delight to watch this cast reunite and grow,” series creator Richard Warlow said. “As these new characters’ lives take shape on the page, it is a daily inspiration to know that they will be brought to life by the most magnificent troupe of actors Ripper Street has yet assembled.”

A description of the first series is as follows:

Haunted by the failure to catch London’s most evil killer, Jack the Ripper, Inspector Edmund Reid now heads up the notorious H Division – the toughest police district in the East End. Charged with keeping order in the blood-stained streets of Whitechapel, Reid and his men find themselves fighting to uphold justice and the rule of law; but always in the background lurks the fear of the Ripper – is he back for another reign of terror? Rich episodic storylines meld with the intrigue of a criminal underworld festering on the hard streets of Victorian London, following the battle of the men whose job it is to bring the law to the lawless.

This news explains why Matthew is in Ireland and posted a photo of himself dressed as a 19th century policeman.

Matt Lewis Raising Money for The Steve Prescott Foundation and Kilimanjaro Challange

As we posted quite a few months ago, Matthew Lewis is participating in the Kilimanjaro Challange to raise money for the Steve Prescott Foundation. He has just set up a donation page in an effort to raise £8,000 by the climb in October.

He has written a letter to fans asking for donations, which you can read below. Please head over to Just Giving and help Matt and Nick reach their goal! Each climber aims to raise at least £4000 for the 3 charities of the SPF, the Christie Hospital, Try Assist and the Oxford Transplant Foundation.

Both Nick and I are big Rugby League fans and we’ve followed our team the Leeds Rhinos for many years. Rugby League however is more than just club loyalties and tribalism. It’s a social sport, a game that brings communities together instead of dividing them, for want of a better word, it’s a family. And nobody sums that mentality up more than Steve Prescott.

There are four words in particular that described Stephen Prescott: competitive, resilient, courageous and inspirational. These qualities were prevalent throughout his life, in which sport played a dominant role. To reach the top in Rugby League like Steve did, a fiercely competitive attitude is needed, together with great self-belief and courage. Stephen also had to overcome several set-backs during his sporting career and, in the face of terminal illness, he showed terrific courage and has become an inspirational figure to thousands, not just within the Rugby League community itself.

It was Steve’s plan to scale this beast of a mountain, to be literally on top of the world. But, being Steve, doing it in NINE days was too easy, nah, Steve wanted to do it in FIVE. Three days up and two days down. Sadly, Steve passed away before he could achieve this feat so, we’re gonna take up his mantle and do it on his behalf.

Oh, and in honour of Steve’s spectacular career we’re gonna break a world record whist we are up there too. The highest Rugby League game in the history of mankind…. EVER! A full 80 minute, RFL officiated Rugby League match at 20,000ft. We’ve even dragged ex-professional referee Steve Ganson up with us to do the honours. With his best pal Adrian Morley. What could possibly go wrong?

Now, this is where YOU come in! Nick and I have to raise £8000 for the trip. It’s a daunting task and it’s probably going to be easier climbing the bloody mountain than it will raising the money but every little helps. Anything you can spare will go towards this fantastic cause. With your help and a sprinkle of Steve’s enduring legacy and mentality we might just achieve this and get up that mountain.

Bluestone 42 Not Returning for 4th Series

Bluestone 42 is officially not returning for a fourth series. James Cary and Richard Hurst made the announcement on Sitcom Geek. While we here at Matthew-Lewis.com are sad that the show will not be returning for more hijinks, we can be glad to know that it helped entertain those men and women fighting to protect us.

UK fans can purchase the first two series on DVD over at Amazon [Bluestone 42 Series 1; Bluestone 42 Series 2]. Fans in the US who haven’t seen it yet can watch the first two seasons of the show on Hulu Plus. The first season can be watched without a Plus account.

The full statement can be read below:

Bluestone 42: Over and Out
Statement from James Cary and Richard Hurst, Creators/Writers of Bluestone 42

We’re sad to announce that Bluestone 42 will not be returning for a fourth series. Overall, it was felt that the show had run its course, with the return of the troops from Afghanistan, and the move of BBC3 to an online platform.

Bluestone 42 ran for 21 episodes over three series, was critically well-received, and was repeated on BBC1 and BBC2.

Its most recent series achieved higher audience figures than the first two, with a total of over two million viewers tuning in on average each week.

The Army – in particular XI EOD, the Royal Logistics Corps bomb disposal regiment – took the show and the characters to their hearts and assisted us greatly in creating a show that valued accuracy as much as comedy. Cpl Daniel Whittingham, interviewed in The Guardian, said “People who aren’t in the military might think comedy isn’t the best way to show what war is like. I disagree, and most soldiers I know think Bluestone 42 is spot-on, too.”

We were also proud that many of the cast raised money several times for the Felix Fund, the bomb disposal charity.

We would like to thank BBC3 for backing the show in the first place, and giving us the creative freedom to pursue our vision for the first comedy set during a war that was still being fought.

We are also very grateful for a superb cast and crew both in UK and South Africa who worked with professionalism, resilience and good humour throughout the process, especially on some very demanding filming days in very hot weather with some very tight budgets. And around some very loud bangs. Everyone can be proud of what we achieved together.

Carry on.

Matt Lewis Chats with Elle at Flannels for Heroes; Interview from Attitude Pride Awards

While attending a charity cricket match for Flannels for Heroes last week, Matthew took some time to speak to Elle France and some other publications.  An interview with London Evening Standard was shared earlier this week, but had information we already knew. His interview with Elle, which was comprised of 15 questions, is now online and you can read a rough translation below.

You can also watch a video interview from the Attitude Pride Awards, which were held on June 26th, over on GettyImages. He talks about gay marriage, his photo shoot and future plans (if an embeddable version is made available we will update.

Any tattoos?
Matthew Lewis. The “11” number on my arm. It was my number when I played sports. And I have a feather tattooed on the other arm. Everyone thinks it’s a reference to ‘Harry Potter’, but it’s not. I was just very drunk one evening in Germany. I followed a friend, and the next morning, I woke up with this tattoo!

What is the best song of all time?
Matthew Lewis. “In My Life” by the Beatles.

What song do you listen to in secret?
Matthew Lewis. “Can’t Smile Without You” Barry Manilow.

 What food makes you happy?
Matthew Lewis. Pizza!

What is your favorite series?
Matthew Lewis. I am a real fan of “Star Trek,” and right now, I’m crazy about “Better Call Saul,” the “Breaking Bad” spinoff.

What movie could you say, “This role should have been mine! “?
Matthew Lewis. I think the new “Star Wars”!

The biggest star you met?
Matthew Lewis. Paul MCCARTNEY! That was in 2010, on my birthday. I went to his concert in Hyde Park, and I was invited to the after-party. It was a very intimate evening. I spoke for a long time with his drummer, and suddenly, out of nowhere, he asked where the toilet was. No sound came out of my mouth. When he came out of the toilet, he wished me a happy birthday. It was during the World Cup and England had just lost against Germany, so we drank and drowned our sorrow together.

Your secret crush?
Matthew Lewis. Apart from Emilia Clarke? Scarlett Johansson!

Are you very connected?
Matthew Lewis. I’m on Twitter a lot, and I’m gradually starting to use Instagram. I just bought an Apple Watch. I do not have a lot of apps on it, just simple ones, like a calendar. I forget everything, I am much worse than Neville, I’m a nightmare.

People often ask you to take selfies?
Matthew Lewis. Very often, nobody wants classic photos, it’s a selfie or nothing.

Between us, do you use your popularity to your advantage?
Matthew Lewis. No, the idea makes me uncomfortable. I feel that no one knows who I am, then I would never use my name. For example, everyone wondered if Apple offered me the Apple Watch. No, I bought it myself! I would be too afraid to go to Apple to ask for one and nobody knows who I am!

It seems that it is torture to watch the movies …
Matthew Lewis. It’s unbearable, it is a very painful experience. I saw all the “Harry Potter” at the premieres but I re-look on forever. I hate to see myself on screen!

Thanks marcel for the tip!
