New Bluestone 42 Promo Photo, Clips & Episode 3 Description

A new promotional photo of Matt Lewis in Bluestone 42 may be seen in the gallery. Additionally, BBC Three has posted a description for Episode 3, airing tomorrow.

Nick and the Lt Colonel find themselves in an unexpected battle of wills. Rocket gets himself a pet rat, much to Bird’s disgust.

Finally, a couple new clips from the episode have been released. They are titled “A kite with a webcam” and “Dad’s new girlfriend” respectively and may be watched below, there is strong language so those under the age of 16 should ask parents permission.

Scan and Transcript of Matt Lewis’ TV Choice Magazine Interview

The latest issue of TV Choice Magazine (Feb 22nd – 28th issue) features an interview with Matthew where he discusses his role in Bluestone 42. Thanks to @kirstiebrookes on Twitter we have a scan of the issue, you can also read a full transcript in our press archive.

Of the shows comedic aspects, Matt said: ‘You’re laughing along with these guys all the way, never at them,’ says Mathew. ‘It’s a comedy, but there’s real danger in every episode, and we don’t skirt over that.’

He also mentioned that he didn’t watch the first series of the show when it originally aired due to the fact that he wasn’t offered a role. But he mentioned in another interview (on The Culture Studio – listen starting at 1:17:30) that after he watched he realized there was no part that was a right fit.

‘It looked brilliant, but I didn’t get an audition, so I went into a big actor’s sulk and refused to watch it! I was like, “Why haven’t I been put up for this? I’d love to do something like that!” Fast forward a year, and here I am!’

Matt Lewis Shares Tips for Aspiring Actors

In a new interview with Ideas Tap, Matt Lewis gives aspiring young actors a number of tips on auditions and more. The full interview may be read in our press archive.

What were you most looking forward to doing when you finished Harry Potter?

What I really wanted to do was get another job. That was my main concern. When you’ve done a film series like that you have to be philosophical: I’m not expecting to do anything as big as that ever again. I just want to be working.

In the beginning, when I was going to meetings, I felt that I had to first convince them that I wasn’t Neville Longbottom before I could convince them I was somebody else. But I think a lot of that was more in my own mind than anything else.

What do you do to prepare for auditions?

There’s so much out there that I’ve found helpful – books written by casting directors, guidelines for auditions, books on Stanislavski technique. As soon as I get my script, I put my phone on silent and I sit and read through it and really try to immerse myself in it.

You can’t over-emphasis the importance of preparation. If you’re doing an accent, speak in that accent up until the moment you go in. If I’m going into a room to do a scene I want to know that scene back to front: what everyone’s motivation is and just know the scene completely – not just the lines.

What advice would you give adult actors for working with child actors?

I just remember how terrifying it was, working as a kid. I was so nervous around the older actors and thought, “Oh, are they going to be judging everything that I’m doing? Do they think I’m crap and is that why he’s not talking to me?” And that’s not true at all – it’s just that they are obviously engrossed in their own performances.

One thing I’ve always tried to do, working with kids since then, is talk to them and make them feel as comfortable as possible. Sometimes young people on a film set can feel excluded. You’re expecting these people to work like adults and be as professional and mature as adults so you’ve got to involve them.

Michael Gambon used to tell some really naughty jokes, when I was a kid. He wouldn’t tell them to us, but he’d be telling them to someone else and you’d overhear. I don’t think the parents liked it very much but for us that made him seem so much more human and more approachable. That made me more relaxed.

New Bluestone 42 Photos & Ten Reasons to Watch

A couple new promotional photos from Bluestone 42 have been released, view them in the gallery. Additionally, there are a couple new mentions of the show on various websites. First, Metro News has posted a short description of the show, for those uninitiated.

The controversial war-zone comedy returns for a second tour of duty as we catch up with bomb disposal unit Bluestone 42 in Helmand Province, where the humour is as dark and blue as ever. Tony Gardner (Fresh Meat) is back at the top of the food chain as Lt Col Philip Smith, coolly exerting his leadership over hot-blooded troops who bicker and battle as a distraction from the ever-present threat of attack. While Captain Nick Medhurst (Oliver Chris) weighs up his handgun against that of new arrival Cpl Gordon House (Matthew Lewis), Padre Mary Greenstock (Kelly Adams) announces a special award – to the ‘filthiest bastard on the base’.

Second, Radio Times has posted 10 reasons to watch Bluestone 42 and, of course, Matthew is one of them. Read some of the reasons below:

1. Who thought a comedy about a bomb disposal unit would ever work…

… but it does. There were more than a few raised eyebrows when BBC3 first announced their comedy set in Afghanistan and it takes some skilful writing to squeeze within the realms of acceptability, but James Cary and Richard Hurst have done just that. Killing off an Army boss in the opening scenes of series one was certainly a risky business, but they pulled it off and the show has since deservedly won itself a loyal fan base.

2. Men in Uniform

Seriously. What’s not to love about men (and women) in army fatigues? Especially those bearing an uncanny resemblance to Prince William. Speaking of…

6. Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter

We know what you’re thinking. When did the gap-toothed, gormless kid from Hogwarts transform into such a hunk? It’s a wonder what a few gym sessions, some stubble and a decent haircut can do for a fella. If you tuned in at Christmas you’d have seen Matthew Lewis join proceedings as Nick’s deputy Gordon “Towerblock” House, replacing Gary Carr’s Sergeant Millsy. We’ve been promised shirtless scenes.

7. The explosions

What’s a bomb disposal comedy without an explosion or two, eh?

And according to Matthew Lewis, we can expect several more blasts in the upcoming second series. “That’s what the show’s about. It’s a danger these bombs are likely to detonate and a couple of times they really do.”
