The first trailer for Matthew’s new film, Wasteland has been released and may be watched below!
Battered, bruised and under arrest, Harvey Miller sits in a police interview room facing interrogation. Clutching a stack of eyewitness statements, Detective Inspector West has no doubt as to Harvey’s part in a foiled robbery, and his subsequent attempted murder of local businessman Steven Roper. Denying nothing, Harvey agrees to tell his version of events in full. As the story unfolds, we discover that a malevolent and unjust act perpetrated by Roper put Harvey in prison and now he has a score to settle.
Following an emotional reunion with his best friends, Harvey sets about finding the girl he left behind, determined to rekindle their romance. What follows is the ingenious and elaborate blueprint of a master plan which Harvey hopes will deliver revenge on his old adversary as well as giving him and his friends the opportunity to start a new life abroad. After weeks of meticulous planning, the boys set the plan in motion. What unfolds is a tense and exhilarating heist of unexpected proportions. A story of loyalty, jealousy, friendship, revenge and the pursuit of happiness.

This afternoon Matthew Lewis was a guest on One on One with Liz Green where he discussed getting into acting, Harry Potter, watching himself act, friendships, living in Leeds and much more. He also chooses some songs that they play during the hour. The audio is now available on the BBC iPlayer, Matthew’s segment starts at 3:10. If anyone would like to write a transcript for us, please do and send it in to webmiss[at]magical-menagerie[dot]com
Of note in the interview he mentions that he starts rehearsals for his new play, Our Boys, next week. The play will run from October 3rd, with previews starting September 26th. He also teases something, possibly related to Wasteland, but says it’s a secret and he can’t share. He did say a trailer should be coming out soon, with the movie hopefully releasing by the end of this year.
He also promotes the song Our Time, by Chris Stocks, that is being sold to raise money for charity. You can purchase the song on iTunes with all proceeds after iTunes commission to CANCER RESEARCH UK. There is also an accompanying video that you can watch on YouTube. The video was directed by his brother Anthony Lewis with cinematography by Chris Lewis and starring Bill Ward, Laura Carter & Sam Cunningham.

The Wasteland Official Facebook has been updated with a new behind the scenes photo of Matthew Lewis and Luke Treadaway during filming, that photo may be seen in the gallery. Additionally, ScreenDaily has posted a new article about Matthew Lewis’ new film, Wasteland. Some snippets may be read below.
The film, pitched as akin to Ocean’s 11 on a Northern Council Estate, is about four best friends who hatch a heist plan to better their lives.
The lads are played by Luke Treadaway, Iwan Rheon, Gerard Kearns, and Matthew Lewis; with Timothy Spall as a police interrogator, Vanessa Kirby as the love interest and Neil Maskell as a local thug.
[…]
It won’t be the typical heist film. Pritchard explains: “People are hugely worried about clichés, if it’s a Northern gritty heist film. But this is something different. The humanity up here is fantastic and Rowan knows that better than anyone almost…People that read the script saw that.”
He adds: “You’ll like the characters and that’s vital. Their plan isn’t legal but their reasons are fairly honourable. Also, there are no guns in the film, which is something we said right from the beginning.
[…]
Treadaway says the four actors at the core of the film have worked extremely well together. “We’re a right little gang. It’s nice to do a film with guys the same age, and it’s a group of lads that don’t have egos.” Athale agrees: “We’ve been lucky all very different people and all differnet to their characters but they are working very very supportively and there is no ego between them.”
[…]
Matthew Lewis notes that it’s ultimately “a redemption film, about friendship and loyalty. They are good guys, they aren’t thugs.”
Finally, I’ve added another new photo from Matthew’s publicity shoot to the gallery.
